Purpose▾
The purpose of this part-qualification is to prepare a learner to operate as a Water Cart Operator. A Water Cart Operator operates equipment dispensing water on to the road surface to suppress dust. A qualified learner will be able to operate the equipment safely and efficiently.
Rationale▾
This Water Cart Operator part-qualification is important for current and future employees serving the construction industry. The construction industry will draw the learners from the current unemployed youth and provide them with a standardised Water Cart Operator part-qualification that will assist in attaining employment. The construction industry plays an important role in the reduction of unemployment in the economy. However, for the industry to be effective, a skilled workforce is critical. Suitably trained Water Cart Operators will expand the required skills base. The Water Cart part-qualification will improve opportunities for self-employment and employment as well as mobility. Qualifying learners will progress based on their certification, qualification, grading and experience. The part-qualification will also create opportunities for new entrants in the market. Opportunities exist for employees with this part-qualification to progress to: • Continuous Bucket Trencher Operator. • Water Cart Operator. • Construction Plant Supervisor. • Earthwork and Layer Works Hand. • Road Drainage Hand.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): RPL for Access to the External Integrated Summative Assessment: Accredited providers and approved workplaces must apply the internal assessment criteria specified in the related curriculum document to establish and confirm prior learning. Accredited providers and workplaces must confirm prior learning by issuing a statement of results or by certifying a work experience record. RPL for Access to the Qualification: Accredited providers and approved workplaces may recognise prior learning against the relevant access requirements. Entry requirements: NQF Level 1 qualification with mathematics.
