Purpose

The purpose of this part qualification is to prepare a learner to operate as a Tissue Winder Operator. A Tissue Winder Operator operates the main paper conversion machines.

Rationale

The Occupational Certificate: Tissue Winder Operator is important to address the skills needed by current and future employees currently serving as Tissue Winder Operator without appropriate qualifications. The industry will attract learners from the cohort of current employees who performed the function without recognised qualification. Tissue papers are used within our society for social and economic reasons. The part qualification identified will formalise employment for many people and ensure appropriate use of skills for relevant jobs. Different career opportunities have arisen in particular for core making and finished product packaging. Qualified personnel will improve economic productivity and quality of exports within this subsector. This qualification will contribute to the development of qualified personnel in the pulp and paper industry. Employees will progress based on acquired competence and new entries created in the market for people with qualifications, including part qualification. Opportunities will now exist for employees to progress towards other related learning environments like Tissue Winder Operator further towards other related qualifications and careers like Pulp and Paper Technologist, Process Technician, Production Supervisor and or Floor Manager.
