Tissue Backstand Operator

The purpose of this part-qualification is to prepare the learner to operate as a Tissue Backstand Operator. A Tissue Backstand Operator fetches and loads paper rolls into the unwinding machine.

The Occupational Certificate: Tissue Backstand Operator is designed to address the skills of current and future employees serving as Tissue Backstand Operators without appropriate qualifications. The industry will draw learners from the cohort of current employees aspiring to grow in the occupation and acquire more recognition. Tissue papers are used within our society for social and economic reasons. The part-qualification identified will formalise employment for many people and ensure appropriate use of skills for relevant jobs. Different career opportunities have arisen, in particular for core making and finished product packaging. Qualified personnel will improve economic productivity and quality of exports within this subsector. The qualification will contribute to the development of qualified personnel in the pulp and paper industry. The qualification will enable people who have done this work for years, without certification, to acquire such certificates to validate their professional experience. Employees will progress based on knowledge gained at a lower level, including this part-qualification, accessing new opportunities created in the market. Opportunities will now exist for employees with part-qualifications to progress towards the Occupational Certificate: Tissue Converter Machine Operator, and further towards other related qualifications and careers like Pulp and Paper Technologist, Process Technician, Production Supervisor and/or Floor Manager.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): RPL for Access to the External Integrated Summative Assessment: Accredited providers and approved workplaces must apply the internal assessment criteria specified in the related curriculum document to establish and confirm prior learning. Accredited providers and workplaces must confirm prior learning by issuing a statement of results or certifying a work experience record. RPL for access to the qualification: Accredited providers and approved workplaces may recognise prior learning against the relevant access requirements. Entry Requirements: • NQF Level 2 with Mathematics.

• Prepare backstand equipment, raw materials and load the tissue roll into unwinding machine.
• Operate and monitor backstand equipment for production of tissue rolls and paper products to job requirements.
