Purpose▾
The purpose of this part qualification is to prepare a learner to function as a Shelf Filler. A Shelf Filler applies merchandising principles and conduct merchandising activities to maintain display areas and fill shelves in compliance with company and safety standards. A qualified learner will be able to: • Prepare for merchandising of stock according to store procedures. • Merchandise stock by creating displays and maintaining stock levels. • Conduct stock count activities in compliance with company and safety standards. Qualified learners will be mainly employed in the wholesale and retail sector at stores, which range from distribution centres, warehouse stores, supermarkets, speciality stores, department stores and spaza shops.
Rationale▾
Learners achieving this part qualification will have skills and competencies expected for shelf filling practices in wholesale and retail stores. Competencies will include displaying stock attractively, check and replenish stock to maintain stock levels needed in the store whereby providing excellent customer service. This part qualification is aimed at two groups of learners, which include school leavers as well as employees working in the retail and wholesale sector without formal qualifications, who have gained learning on the job training. Wholesale and Retail customers are more and more calling for high level of a customer satisfaction. The industry will benefit through skilled employees who are able to maintain attractive displays and maintain stock levels or products and produce in the store whereby ensuring customer satisfaction, improved image of the business and increased sales. Upskilling of employees and learners will enhance confidence and self-worth. This qualification provides learners in the wholesale and retail sectors with employment opportunities to work across different retail career pathways. The stakeholders in various regions within wholesale and retail industry supported and endorsed development process of Shelf Filler part qualification. The sector is characterised by high staff turnover that presents challenges to get Shelf Fillers work-ready in the shortest possible time. The perishable goods require adherence to strict time management therefore staff can only be released for scheduled training at suitable periods. The industry confirmed that the average learner can demonstrate competence in this time period.
Learning Assumed to be in Place & RPL▾
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): • Learners will gain access to the qualification through RPL for Access as provided for in the QCTO RPL Policy. RPL for access is conducted by accredited education institution, skills development provider or workplace accredited to offer that specific qualification/part qualification. • Learners who have acquired competencies of the modules of a qualification or part qualification will be exempted from modules through RPL. • Learners will be awarded credits for or towards the qualification or part qualification through RPL as provided in the QCTO RPL Policy. RPL for credits provides for the formal award of credits for, or towards a qualification or part-qualification registered on the NQF. RPL for access to the external integrated summative assessment Accredited providers and approved workplaces must apply the internal assessment criteria specified in the related curriculum document to establish and confirm prior learning. Accredited providers and workplaces must confirm prior learning by issuing a statement of result or certifying a work experience record. Entry Requirements: The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is: • NQF Level 2 qualification.
