Purpose▾
The purpose of this qualification is to prepare a learner to operate as a Mobile Mining Equipment Operator. A Mobile Mining Equipment Operator operates mobile mining equipment to transport personnel, explosives, materials and minerals and perform related operations. The curriculum will need to be contextualised to one of the following types of mobile mining equipment used underground: Battery hauler, Light delivery vehicle, Load-haul-dump vehicle, Mechanical loader, Personnel carrier, Roof bolter, Scaler, Shuttle car, Tractor, Utility vehicle but excludes continuous mining and drill equipment. A qualified learner will be able to: • Operate mobile mining equipment in mining operations.
Rationale▾
The Mine Health and Safety Act (29 of 1996) requires that operators of underground mobile mining equipment be competent. This qualification is designed to meet those regulatory requirements.
