Purpose▾
The purpose of this qualification is to prepare a learner to be able to repair, maintain and install lubrication equipment and systems in accordance with a range of equipment and lubricant specifications. A qualified learner will be able to: • Apply hand skills to perform mechanical engineering tasks using engineering tools and equipment. • Perform routine repairs and maintenance on lubrication equipment. • Repair, install and commission lubrication equipment/systems.
Rationale▾
The Occupational Certificate in Lubrication Equipment Mechanic qualification is a unique response to the recent engineering-related developments in technology, specifically focusing on developments in lubrication equipment and systems in South Africa. Developments in this field have become highly technical and are associated with automated lubrication of a range of equipment used in various production processes. Lubrication of equipment and systems is characterised as engineering maintenance, repair and installation services to support a variety of industries. The equipment requiring such service and support ranges from sophisticated equipment to antiquated single station machines. People working on the lubrication of equipment and systems require specialised technical skills and knowledge, as well as highly developed repair and maintenance skills in order to meet the mechanical engineering requirements of the diverse industries. The qualification fits into the generally accepted career path of a mechanical trade. Thus allowing qualifying learners to seek employment as a tradesperson within the mechanical trades, such as Fitters (General) or Fitters and Turners.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): RPL for access to the integrated assessment: Accredited providers and approved workplaces must apply the internal assessment criteria specified in the related curriculum document to establish and conform prior learning. Prior learning must be acknowledged by a statement of results. RPL for entry requirements to access the qualification: Accredited providers and approved workplaces may recognise prior learning against the relevant access requirements. Entry Requirements: • NQF Level 2 with Mathematics.
