Purpose▾
The purpose of this qualification is to prepare a learner to function as a Golf Professional. Golf Professionals perform specific functions within the golf industry, such as coaching, organising events, managing golf facilities, providing equipment advice, or working in other roles related to the business and promotion of golf. A qualified learner will be able to: • Coach and develop golfers. • Manage golfing business. • Advise and monitor the application of the rules and ethos of golf. • Advise on equipment technology to repair golfing characteristics and customisation. The Higher Occupational Certificate: Golf Professional equips learners with a broad set of specialised skills and industry-recognised credentials, enabling them to pursue diverse career paths such as coaching, golf business management, event organisation and equipment customisation. By gaining expertise in coaching techniques, business operations, and equipment technology, learners become valuable assets capable of supporting golf player development, enhancing operational efficiency, and optimising player experiences. Knowledge of golf rules and ethics prepares them to promote sportsmanship and uphold the values of the sport, a crucial aspect in roles like officiating and event coordination. This qualification also provides a foundation in golf-related business management, covering budgeting, customer service, and resource allocation, making learners well-prepared to run profitable, customer-focused golf operations. Rationale▾
This qualification is necessary in the Golf industry to ensure that individuals possess the required skills and knowledge to instruct and manage golf-related activities at various levels, from coaching to administration. This qualification will also add to the credibility and competence of the competitive golf industry. This will aid in securing employment for professionals at golf clubs, resorts and academies, while also providing career advancement and specialisation opportunities within the sport. There is no similar qualification registered on the National Qualifications Framework. The qualification will benefit the sector by providing structured and standardised training for aspiring golf professionals, enhancing the overall skill level within the golf sector. Establishing a formal qualification ensures that individuals entering the profession meet international standards of competence and knowledge, leading to improved quality of service in golf coaching, management, and related areas. This qualification offers clear career progression for individuals passionate about golf, providing them with recognised credentials that can help them advance within the sector, whether in teaching, management, or other professional roles. The South African society benefits by promoting a structured pathway into the golf profession. South Africa's renowned golf courses could see increased patronage as a result. As the golf industry grows with more skilled professionals, there can be positive ripple effects on related sectors such as hospitality, retail, and real estate, further driving economic development. Typical learners include individuals already working in the golf industry and those seeking to enter the field. Representatives working in the golf industry were consulted in the review of the qualification. Learning Assumed to be in Place & RPL▾
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): RPL for Access: Learners may use the RPL process to gain access to training opportunities for a qualification if they do not meet the formal, minimum entry requirements for admission. RPL assessment provides an alternative access route into a qualification. Such an RPL assessment may be developed, moderated, and conducted by the accredited Skills Development Provider which offers that specific qualification. Such an assessment must ensure that the learner is able to display the equivalent level of competencies required for access, based on the NQF level descriptors. RPL for exemption from modules: For exemption from modules through RPL, learners who have gained the stipulated competencies of the modules of a qualification through any means of formal, informal or nonformal learning and/or work experience, may be awarded credits towards relevant modules, and gaps identified for training, which is then concluded. RPL for awarding credits: Learners who have gained the stipulated competencies of the modules of a qualification through any means of formal, informal or non-formal learning and/or work experience may be awarded credits towards relevant modules, and gaps identified for training, which is then concluded. A valid Statement of Results is required for admission to the EISA in which confirmation of achievement is provided that all internal assessment criteria for all modules in the related curriculum document have been achieved. Upon successful completion of the EISA, RPL learners will be issued with the QCTO certificate for the qualification. Quality Partners are responsible for ensuring the RPL mechanism and process for qualifications and part-qualification is approved by the QCTO. Entry Requirements An NQF Level 4 qualification.

Exit Level Outcome: 1. Select and apply standard methods, procedures or techniques to coach and develop golfers. 2. Apply key terms, concepts, processes, general principles, and legislative prescripts to manage a golfing business. 3. Apply basic processes of analysis, synthesis and evaluation to advise and monitor the application of the rules and ethos of golf. 4. Select and apply standard methods, procedures or techniques to advise golfers on equipment technology to repair golfing characteristics and customisation.
