Purpose▾
The purpose of this qualification is to prepare a learner to operate as a Glass Process Operator. A Glass Process Operator converts float glass into a glass product that can be installed into buildings and automotive vehicles. A qualified learner will be able to: • Plan and prepare glass raw material for production of glass products. • Operate and monitor manufacturing equipment for glass production. • Maintain quality control for the finished product.
Rationale▾
This qualification is important to address the skills of current and future employees working as Glass Process Operators. The industry will draw learners from the contingent of current employees who are performing the function without recognised qualifications. The National Certificate: Molten Glass Production provides for container glass and not float glass which excludes a substantial number of skilled employees for recognition or certification. Registration of these qualifications will create employment and career opportunities in the sector for people with qualifications, including part-qualifications. Career progression opportunities will be possible for employees with Level 2 part-qualifications to progress to Glass Process Operators. Employees already qualified as Glass Process Operators will be able to progress further towards Glass Manufacturing Technician and Glazier qualifications. This qualification focuses on developing skills and knowledge necessary to perform at the level of competence required. These skills also allow for employment in proficiencies based on the Part- qualifications derived from the Occupational Certificate: Glass Process Operator. These proficiencies are: • Occupational Certificate: Glass Handler. • Glass Cutter and Edgework Operator.
Learning Assumed to be in Place & RPL▾
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): RPL for Access to the External Integrated Summative Assessment: Accredited providers and approved workplaces must apply the internal assessment criteria specified in the related curriculum document to establish and confirm prior learning. Accredited providers and workplaces must confirm prior learning by issuing a statement of results or by certifying a work experience record. RPL for Access to the Qualification: Accredited providers and approved workplaces may recognise prior learning against the relevant access requirements. Entry Requirements: The minimum entry requirement for this qualification is: • NQF Level 1 qualification.
Exit Level Outcomes▾
- Plan and prepare raw material for production of different glass products.
