Rationale

The Occupational Certificate in Footwear Lasting and Making Production Machine Operator is designed to provide learners with basic knowledge and understanding to operate as Footwear Lasting and Making Production Machine Operators and prepare them for employment and/or career advancement in the Footwear Industry. The Footwear Industry in South Africa is challenged by footwear producers from countries like China, Korea and the like which have entered the South African market with mass-produced goods. This competition has implications for the staff at bottom levels in the industry, as company profit margins have declined. In this regard, organisations have opted for the development of skills in order to enhance productivity and the production of quality products. This approach will enable businesses to be sustainable. This qualification is in line with sector national skills development strategies as it identifies and addresses critical and scarce skills in the Footwear Industry Sector.
