Purpose

The purpose of this part-qualification is to prepare a learner to operate as a Diesel Bowser Operator. A Diesel Bowser Operator operates equipment to transport fuel safely to support other equipment on a construction site. A qualified learner will be able to: • Operate Diesel Bowser equipment safely and efficiently.

Rationale

The Diesel Bowser part-qualification aims to address the skills of the current and future employees serving the construction industry. The construction industry will draw the learners from the unemployed youth and provide them with a standardised Diesel Bowser part-qualification that will equip them with skills necessary for employment. The construction industry plays a significant role in reducing unemployment in the economy. However, for the construction industry to be effective, a skilled workforce of internal Diesel Bowser Operators is essential. This part-qualification will open employment opportunities. It will also enhance the mobility of qualified operators and improve opportunities for self-employment. Qualifying learners will be able to progress based on their certification, qualification, grading and experience. The part-qualification creates opportunities for new entrants in the market. Qualifying learners will be able to complete part-qualifications allowing progression within the work place to the following areas: • Sideboom Operator. • Water Cart Operator. • Construction Plant Supervisor. • Earthwork and Layer Works Hand. • Road Drainage Hand.
